10 Things You Might Not Know About Jotform for Teachers

Have you used Jotform? If you’ve ever needed to collect permission slips, gather parent contact information, or put together a quick exit ticket, Jotform is the perfect place to make all of these things happen.

Regular readers know that I’m a super fan of Jotform. I’ve shared resources like their Quiz Maker and information on their accessibility features on the blog. And I’ve heard plenty of educators in my travels and conversations about EdTech share the ways they use Jotform during the school year.

Many teachers think of Jotform as a tool for building a basic survey or sign-up sheet. That’s certainly part of what it does, but it’s only the beginning. Jotform offers so many options to teachers including ready-to-use templates and even AI Agents that take a spin on what you might think Jotform can do.

Today on the blog, we’ll take a look at ten things you might not know you could do with Jotform. I’m excited for you to explore this list and hopefully find a new way to use this powerful platform.

10 Things You Might Not Know About Jotform

Let’s take a look at ten ways Jotform can support the work you’re already doing and why it deserves a spot in your back-to-school toolkit.

Track and Observe Student Behavior

You can use Jotform to keep a record of student behavior. Instead of jotting something down on a sticky note that may get misplaced, you can build a simple form. Each time you have something to jot down, you can open the form to log what you’re noticing across the day or week. There’s even a student behavior tracking AI Agent that can help you capture observations quickly and spot patterns over time.

This kind of documentation can make a real difference when you’re preparing for a family conference or a support team meeting. If classroom management is on your mind this year, the How to Improve Classroom Behavior video is a great place to see these tools in action.

Gamify Your Lessons with Class Polls

A quick poll is one of the easiest ways to gather actionable information and add energy to a lesson. You can use a Jotform class poll to take a fast pulse check, vote on an idea, or turn a review into a game. Students can see the results come in, and you get an instant read on what students understand (or are struggling with).

There’s also The Class Poll AI Agent which is worth checking out if you want to engage students in interactive polling. It makes feedback collection seamless and enhances classroom participation.

Streamline Your Lesson Planning

Jotform has almost 2,000 templates to explore, including a fully customizable Lesson Plan Form template. You can add, remove or change fields, and change the colors, fonts, and background, too. If you’re more of a table person (that’s me for sure) you may want to check out this Table Template from Jotform.

Set Up Your Science Labs

Science labs come with a lot of moving parts, and Jotform can help you stay on top of them. You can share a lab report form for students to submit their findings. Or you can use Jotform to collect science lab waiver forms before hands-on activities. You might even use Jotform to make a science lab absence form for students who need to make up a missed session.

Assess Foreign Language Oral Skills

Are you assessing speaking and listening skills this year? Jotform has a ready-to-use template you can easily customize for your group. An oral skills assessment form gives you a consistent place to capture your rubric scores and notes as students share their responses. Everything lives in one spot. So it’s easy to look back at a student’s progress over the course of a unit or a semester.

Collect and Organize Grades

You can also use Jotform to gather grades in a way that keeps everything organized. With the Grade Spreadsheet Template, teachers can track and record student grades online. It’s a free gradebook spreadsheet you can download, print, and share.

Keep Track of Parent Communication

Family communication is so important, and a parent communication log gives you one place to record every call, email, and conversation. You can add the date and a few notes to keep track of all of your formal and informal meetings. It’s so much easier to build this habit when you have a ready-to-customize space like this one from Jotform. When you need to look back at a conversation or show a clear record of your outreach, it’s right there waiting for you.

Get Reports from Substitute Teachers

How do you keep track of what happens when you have a substitute teacher leading your class for a day? A Substitute Teacher Reporting Form makes it easy for your “guest teacher” to share what got covered, how the class did, and anything that needs your attention when you return. You can leave this form right alongside a link to your sub plans so it’s easy for them to complete at the end of a class period or school day.

Track Student Progress Over Time

Jotform can also help with progress monitoring. You can keep a daily teacher journal to record what you covered each day, using a form like this one. If you’re looking back at the pacing of a unit or planning for a new unit, this information can come in handy.

A student progress tracking sheet helps you follow individual growth toward specific goals.

Together, both a daily journal and information on student progress can help you tell the story of learning in your classroom.

Connect Jotform to the Tech Tools You Already Use

Jotform integrates with both Microsoft and Google Workspace tools, so your form responses can flow right into the apps you’re already using every day. Instead of copying and pasting information or jumping from tab to tab, everything can live in one place. When your tools talk to each other, you save time and reduce the chances of missing something important.

Making the Most of Jotform for Teachers

Teachers who use Jotform know that you can do so much more than set up a basic survey. With Jotform you can support lesson planning, grading, family communication, and so much more, all in one place.

Whether you teach elementary, middle, or high school, you can start with just one of the ideas on the list above as you get ready to head back to school. The templates and AI Agents can help with the set up, so you don’t have to start from scratch.

If you haven’t explored everything Jotform for teachers has to offer, this is a perfect time to take another look. Start small by picking one form, trying one template, or setting up one AI Agent. You can sign up for free today and start building forms that fit the way you teach!
