Mid-Year Check-In Template for Students

Do you pause and reflect with students? For a creative spin on a mid-year check-in, the team at Adobe for Education has partnered with Khan Academy to share a free mid-year reflection template for students. As part of their December challenge, you and your students can reflect on the first half of the school year as 2022 comes to an end.

In today’s blog post, I’ll take you through the December challenge details and spotlight a few of my favorite challenges from this year!

Mid-Year Check-In Template for Students

This December, the teams at Adobe and Khan Academy have come together for a special mid-year check-in challenge. There are resources for different grade levels that you can use right away or adapt for your students. With two versions to choose from (grades 3-5 and 6-12), you can access a lesson plan and template for each level.

With this quick, creative check-in and semester review, teachers can ask students to reflect on the first half of the school year. And at the same time, this creative activity can help activate their growth mindset and focus on ways to be successful in the second half of the year.

Quick Creative Check-in

As you can see in the video below, Adobe’s Claudio Zavala, Jr. created a quick explainer video for your students. The student tutorial video shows your students how to personalize the graphics to make them their own. The video is also an excellent resource for seeing the challenge in action and envisioning how to introduce it to your students.

You can find more details about the challenge on this landing page, including details about special prizes. The team at Adobe for Education is sending ten educators a surprise pack of teacher Adobe Swag. And they’ll get a classroom set of stickers from Adobe Express for participating in the challenge.

Note: Although this is the official December 2022 challenge, you can use this reflection template any time of year. It’s a great activity to help students pause and reflect on their accomplishments.

3 Fantastic Creative Challenges for Kids

Regular readers of the blog know that I’m a big fan of everything you can do with Adobe Express! So, in addition to this new December challenge, 2022 has been full of creative challenges you can try out any time of year.

To help us bring the calendar year to a close, I want to share three of my favorite creative challenges for students. Each one takes you to a lesson idea, examples, and templates you can use with students right away.

The back-to-school New You in ’22 challenge

One of my favorite creative challenges this year was the “New You in ’22” challenge! You can use this activity and template any time you are starting something new. It’s also a great choice when students come together for the first time as a group to introduce each other. This challenge uses the new multi-page feature in Adobe Express.

Six-word history graphics

Last month was a creativity challenge with an Adobe Express and Pear Deck connection. I loved all of the lesson ideas and activities they shared, including the six-word history graphics. Sometimes writing concisely is more challenging than having a whole page to fill. This activity asks students to keep it simple and create an engaging visual, too.

Create a logo for 2023

Although this was officially the March creativity challenge, I love the idea of creating a logo to start fresh in the new year. This spring blog post includes all the details on how to create a logo in Adobe Express. It’s a great option for a quick, creative challenge that might act as a nice follow-up to a mid-year reflection.

Ready to get started with the new December challenge? Head over to this page to find all the details on the mid-year reflection template for students and special prizes. Don’t forget to enter to win special prizes by posting on social media. Use the hashtag #AdobeEduCreative and #KhanAcademy, or by completing the submission form posted on the Challenges page!
