CueThink is an iPad app designed to improve students’ math problem solving skills. The platform centers around a “thinklet,” a showcase for student problem solving. This video vignette captures the steps each student takes as they solve a problem. Students can share these responses with the teacher and classmates. CueThink provides a framework for critical thinking and integrates the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice.
Math Problem Solving on iPads
CueThink builds off Polya’s 4 phases of problemsolving and encourages peer annotations for feedback. The app guides students in making observations in the Understand phase and considering strategies in the Plan phase. In Solve, students record their work and voice. Then there is a prompt to Reflect on their solutions and communication in review. Together, these four phases form a “thinklet.” Students can view their classmates’ thinklets and give feedback to their peers.
