Introducing K-1 Equations with Online Pan Balance

I’ve shared some of the reasons that I love Happy Numbers and their great resources for elementary school students.  They have recently released a pan balance feature to help K-1 students understand equations.  This online pan balance makes it simple for teachers to introduce a concept that young children can find challenging.

Online Pan Balance

05This virtual tool can be accessed on a web browser and is perfect for classrooms with a digital projection screen or one-to-one devices.  Students can watch as their teacher models strategies for balancing equations.  The exercises move in a sequence starting out with single units before asking students to combine the correct numbers to reach the right amount.

Children can tap on items on their own screen or work together in small groups to complete the activities collaboratively.  If you’re working offline or want to send students home with similar activities, Happy Numbers also offers supplemental activity sheets.

Visit Happy Numbers website to demo the pan balance or read their post to learn more!
