Coding websites and apps place valuable resources in the hands of students. With mobile and web-browser based tools, students of all ages can explore computer science.   4. Pythonroom is a fantastic online platform for teachers who want to bring coding into the classroom but don’t know how to code.
  5. StudioWeb is an online educational resource designed for educators so they can easily access video training courses on computer literacy.
  6. Swifty is an iOS app that includes quick tutorials to introduce users to the Swift programing language.
  7. Kodable introduces basic programming skills to students as it pushes them to problem solve and work through different levels.
  8. Tynker is a fantastic tool for educators that makes computer programming fun for students in grades 3-8.

  3. My goal in the classroom last year was to develop a curriculum with lesson plans that future teachers could follow. Scratch (scratch.mit.edu) provided a very nice curriculum guide, but did not have true lesson plans. My 7th grade students enjoyed the block-style drag-and-drop coding, but many craved more options that would prepare them for the AP Java classes that were offered in the upper grades. I would also like to mention that CodeMonkey (playcodemonkey.com) is a fantastic source for bridging the gap between block-style drag-and-drop coding, and more advanced text-based coding like Python or Java. It comes complete with over 35 lesson plans which are approximately 45-minutes in length. It includes a teacher dashboard for easy student assessment, a gradebook, and a FREE instructor certification program.
