Ecosystem App for iPads
In iBiome-Wetland, Professor Bio guides students as they interact with food webs and explore wetland habitats including fresh water marsh, salt water marsh and mangrove swamp. Students will interact with a handful of different species include insects, fish and mammals. This app has no advertisements or in-app purchases and is a great choice for teachers and students searching for an ecosystem app.
How might you use this app in the classroom? It doesn’t have to be Earth Day to explore ecosystems with students. You might ask students to take connections to reading material they are exploring in reading groups or during independent reading time. Alternatively, you might ask students to choose one animal to explore as you get ready to kick off a project on ecosystems.
I was recently working with a school in New Jersey where I modeled a lesson on biodiversity they could bring back to students. We looked at Nearpod together and the teachers took on the role of students as they used the Draw it Feature in Nearpod to draw animals in an underwater ecosystem. This app gives the students of any age access to lots of information to explore.
