Keep Students Informed with Digital Signs in Schools

Can you use EdTech to keep your school community well-informed? With digital signs in your schools, it’s easier than ever to share information. Students, teachers, and everyone in your building can stay up-to-date. In this blog post, I’ll share some of the benefits of digital signs in schools. I’ll also tell you about software to help schools use technology to share information.

What is digital signage?

Digital signage is a type of electronic display usually using a television screen or projection system. You can use digital signs in your school to streamline how you share information with your school community. Students, teachers, family members, and anyone visiting your school building can stay informed. Using digital signs at your school can make it easy for everyone to keep up-to-date with new information. From school news items to upcoming events, a digital sign in your school gives everyone details about what’s happening in your building.

This video from NoviSign gives you a sense of what digital signage can look like in action. It also talks about some of the benefits for your school. You can choose to use their templates or design your own from scratch. Schools thinking about branding will love the customization options. But if you’re looking to jump in right away, NoviSign has you covered with templates!

There aren’t any expensive hardware fees or contracts. All you need is their software and NoviSign offers discounts for schools.

In this blog post, I'll share some of the benefits of digital signs in schools. I'll also tell you about software to help schools share information.

The folks at NoviSign give a helpful breakdown of digital signage on their blog. In this blog post, you can learn how to connect your school’s social media feed to a digital sign. They also share how you can connect Google Slides to a digital sign at your school. Using Slides is an excellent option for schools that have made a commitment to Google tools.

As a classroom teacher, I changed out bulletin boards both inside and outside of my classroom on a pretty regular basis. My staple remover was a prized possession in my classroom. Posting student work on the hallway outside of my room was a great way to celebrate student accomplishments. But it wasn’t the best way to share up-to-date information.

Benefits of Digital Signs in Schools

In this blog post, I'll share some of the benefits of digital signs in schools. I'll also tell you about software to help schools share information.

Unlike a traditional bulletin board, a digital sign lets you preschedule content. With this feature, you can schedule content ahead of time. This way, your digital sign displays content on specific dates or a recurring schedule. For example, imagine you host a “coffee with the principal” event every Tuesday morning. You can make sure the digital sign outside of the main office shares a reminder on Friday afternoons. You can make a change and update your school’s digital signage from any computer. Then the sign will update right away.

If you’re making a case for digital signage this year, this infographic might come in handy. Regular readers of the blog (sign up here) know I love sharing infographics. There are lots of ways to use infographics with students. You might share this infographic with a community group hosting a fundraiser for school improvements. Or it might be the perfect resource to communicate your vision for using digital signs this school year.
