A few weeks ago I had the chance to connect with the team at Metaverse. They’ve created an augmented reality platform. Metaverse makes it easy for teachers and students to create amazing augmented reality experiences without having to code. Watching a live demo of Metaverse in action, I was definitely surprised by just how easy it was to create classroom augmented reality experiences using their tool.
If you’re a regular visitor to ClassTechTips.com you know I’m passionate about the thoughtful use of digital tools in the classroom. I even wrote a book on Deeper Learning with QR Codes and Augmented Reality. You’ve also probably designed plenty of interactive learning experiences for students. From educational games and interactive stories, to puzzles, challenges, and scavenger hunts. In the past, creating augmented reality experiences could be a challenge, but the team at Metaverse has created a really user-friendly tool you’ll definitely want to check out.
Metaverse: Augmented Reality in Education
Using the Metaverse Studio, teachers and students can arrange different components on a storyboard and connect them together on their computer. The Metaverse augmented reality experiences you create are also instantly shareable through a link or QR code. This means you can post your creations to share with students in a variety of learning management systems (LMS). Alternatively, you can connect them to a QR code to scan with any device. Depending on what you create, you might post your augmented reality experience to social media. Or you can send the link via email, or embed it into a class or school website. Users can then tap on the link you’ve shared or scan the QR code with the Metaverse App and interact with the augmented reality experiences you’ve created.
In the classroom, this tool can also be used to connect students with course content and create interactive learning experiences. This might include a scavenger hunt or a BreakoutEDU-style adventure. Metaverse is an open-ended tool. So there are lots of ways to use it to design engaging learning experiences for students.
Augmented Reality in the Classroom
Not only have teachers built Metaverse Experiences for their students. Instead they are letting students take the role of creator and build augmented reality experiences themselves too. Metaverse requires users to think about the the logic behind computer programming. In fact, teachers and students can build things they can put into use right away. I love the idea of empowering students as content creators. With Metaverse, students can apply what they’ve learned in a shareable, interactive format too.
