Sown To Grow: Student Goal Setting + Reflection Platform

This summer I learned about a new student goal setting and reflection platform called Sown To Grow. I love the idea of giving students a space to take ownership and reflect on their learning. With Sown To Grow students set learning goals and track their own progress. They can write reflections on the strategies that work best for them. Teachers can set expectations for students, monitor their growth, and provide feedback on reflections.

Sown To Grow: Student Goal Setting + Reflection Platform

Sown To Grow helps educators bring self-tracking and reflection into the classroom. These learning skills are fundamental for growth mindset, student agency and academic success. They connect to goals for students in all subject areas. This tool is fully integrated with Google Classroom so teachers can sync rosters and assignments with Sown To Grow. They’ll also see a snapshot of student progress all in one place, making it super easy for teachers to get started. The video below provides an overview and shows Sown To Grow in action.

With Sown To Grow you might decide to build structures into your routine for goal setting and reflecting over the course of the school year. You might have students set bi-monthly or weekly goals or establish a cycle for checking in with students individually for a conference around their goals. When students jump into this tool they go through a step-by-step process to check in and set goals, enter their own scores to track process, and write reflections on their learning strategies. Teachers can monitor progress, provide feedback and see student progress.

What I like about Sown To Grow is the emphasis it places on the soft skills.  These are so important for student success. Learning how to set goals and taking time to reflect are essential skills. This is true both inside and outside of the classroom and across the content areas.
